The Premier League is back!!!

Updated: Sep 17, 2020

It has been less than two months since the 2019/20 Premier League season concluded that the new season has kicked off. It's only been the first matchday and we've already seen some rather great fixtures like the thriller between Liverpool and Leeds, and two action-packed games between 'Chelsea and Brighton' and 'Wolves and Sheffield United'.

LIVERPOOL VS LEEDS UNITED

We saw an absolute football classic in the first matchday when Liverpool faced off against the newly-promoted side, Leeds United. The game resulted in a close 4-3 Liverpool victory but Leeds should have nothing to be ashamed about. Despite Leeds came out on the losing end, they have proven how big of a threat they're going to be for the 20/21 season by giving a strong fight against The Champions.

Mohamed Salah kick-started his Premier League season with a hat trick which included two penalties. Virgil Van Dijk also rose from the back to bag his first league goal and Liverpool's second with a header in the 20th minute.

Leeds had three different goal scorers for all three of their goals with Jack Harrison, Patrick Bamford, and Mateusz Klich having their name up on the score sheet. The Whites equalized thrice before Mo Salah completed his hat trick in the 88th minute with a goal from the penalty spot.

SHEFFIELD UNITED VS WOLVES

Sheffield United and Wolverhampton Wanderers went head to head at Bramall Lane with Wolves securing a 2-0 triumph over the hosts. The visitors took the lead inside just three minutes when Daniel Podence provided a sumptuous cross inside the box to Raul Jimenez who lashed a half volley into the back of the net.

Things did not fare any better for Sheffield who then went another goal down in the sixth minute as Romain Saiss headed home a second one for Wolves. The Blades almost halved the deficit in the second half when John Fleck struck the woodwork from a well-worked play made by John Lundstram.

Wolves came incredibly close too as Saiss' left-footed strike was deflected onto the post by Aaron Ramsdale and then Jimenez missed an open net on the rebound. Mexican striker, Raul Jimenez hit the foot of the post again as his header cam bouncing off the woodwork from a Joao Moutinho corner. Wolves jump to fifth place while Sheffield United falls all the way down to seventeenth.

BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION VS CHELSEA

Chelsea grabbed an easy 3-1 win against Brighton and Hove Albion at The American Express Community Stadium. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz were the only two who started of the six signings made by Frank Lampard in this transfer window.

Werner earned a penalty in the 22nd minute when he was brought down by Brighton keeper, Matthew Ryan and Jorginho rolled it into the bottom left corner to give The Blues the lead. It was not until the second half in the 54th minute that The Seagulls scored as it was Leandro Trossard who tried his luck from a long way out and got his team a crucial equalizer; a real shame for Chelsea as Kepa should have easily kept that out but couldn't get there.

Just two minutes later Reece James scored an absolute banger to finish its top bins and to reinforce Chelsea's one-goal advantage again.

All of Brighton's hopes of grabbing a point came crashing down as Kurt Zouma put the ball in the back of Ryan's net via a Reece James corner. It took a deflection on the way of Adam Webster, completely cross footing the goalkeeper. Chelsea currently lifts to third place and Brighton succumbs to the sixteenth.

The 20/21 season of The Premier League produced some great matchday one fixtures, to begin with, and let's hope this season is a season we can look forward to.
